RealSheet FAQ

How do I install RealSheet on my device?

Click the "Get the app" install button on realsheet.net and follow the installation instructions.

RealSheet supports Android and iOS devices only. It is not available for desktop computers or other platforms.

Can I use it offline?

Yes. You'll need an internet connection to install the app and download the tunebooks initially. After doing so, you can use the app offline. From time to time, you'll need an internet connection for updates.

I can't find the app in the App Store or Play Store.

RealSheet is not available in the App Store or Play Store. It is based on web technology and can only be installed by clicking the "Get the app" button on RealSheet.net. We opted for this technology to ensure a flexible and efficient development process.

Can I import my own tunes?

You can import individual tunes or tunebooks in ABC format. Learn more about creating, converting, importing and publishing your tunes.

How can I export a tune?

To export a tune in PDF format, select "Print/PDF" which will bring up a print dialog. Most devices allow you to print, export, and share a document as a PDF from the print dialog.

You can also use the "Export to PDF" or "Export to PNG" feature to avoid headers and footers being added by the system when using the print dialog.

Exporting to other formats is currently not available.

How does the transpose function work?

There are two transpose menus: "Key" and "Instrument." The "Key" menu lets you select the concert key, which is the key in which you would play the tune on the piano. The "Instrument" menu lets you select your transposing instrument (e.g., B♭ for tenor saxophone and E♭ for alto saxophone). You can also select a bass clef for C and B♭ instruments.

Are the songs free to use?

We provide a collection of free jazz tunes called the "RealSheet Public Domain Jazz Collection". All of these tunes are in the public domain in the U.S. because they were first published here before 1931. These tunes are also in the public domain in many other countries, due to the implementation of "Rule of the Shorter Term".

In the forum you may also find links to other song collections from external sources. These collections may contain copyrighted material that has not been authorized by the copyright owners. These links are provided for non-profit educational purposes under principles of fair use. Please use all sheets responsibly and respect local copyright laws.

Who is the team behind RealSheet?

We are jazz enthusiasts and musicians — both singers and instrumentalists — who have long envisioned a practical, tablet-friendly collection of lead sheets. Our goal is to provide melody and lyrics in a format that allows instant transposition into any key, making it especially useful for vocalists as well as for transposing instruments. We’re proud to contribute to the global jazz community and support this vibrant, evolving tradition.
